This funding is to support the communities along the River Wye with the work that we are doing to hold Dwr Cymru Welsh Water to account in testing the water quality around the sewage overflow pipes that run in to the river.
The funding will pay for additional testing kits and testing reagent that we need for each test carried out.
We’ve come together under a new campaign group you can see at www.eyesonthewye.co.uk with a focus on the river in the Wye Valley National Landscape between Ross-on-Wye and Chepstow. In 2025 there were 4,000 hours of sewage overflow in that part of the river and we are pressing DCWW to set out a plan to fix this.
We plan to test regularly around these over flow pipes to evidence the damage that this causes, to monitor the overflows and validate the figures that DCWW publish.
We have support from the Wye Salmon Association with our testing but your funding will help continue this work, extend it further along the river and fund equipment for additional types of tests.
