Wild Rivers is a nonprofit organisation focusing on inspiring primary school children through expeditions in the UK, we are seeking the last bit of support to build our last canoe, and gather the outdoor equipment for the exciting years of trips to come!

We paddle rivers in the UK on unique hand-built canoes, to deliver short school visits on local wildlife conservation to primary school children. Empowering young people to strive for adventure and care for the natural world, our goal is to recruit teams of bioscience graduates every spring and autumn, reaching out to over 1000 school children every year.

Wild Rivers first canoed the River Wye in 2025 collecting data on water crowfoot; we are now returning, this time stopping at schools en route to lead workshops and discussions with students about local ecosystems and conservation topics. We are excited to introduce our team for September 2026 - Gemma Halstead, Katy Ellis, Heron Lewis and Harry Stone.

The River Wye is home to abundant riparian ecosystems and native biodiversity, including otters, water voles, kingfishers, Atlantic salmon and the locally endangered water crowfoot. The river was also recently the focus of a landmark legal case: in April, more than 4,500 local residents, landowners and businesses launched the UK's largest ever environmental lawsuit against chicken farms polluting the watershed.

This tapestry of ecology, politics and the valley's rich cultural history make an inspiring backdrop for our expedition and educational workshops.
