A few days before his 10th birthday, River Rundlett was involved in a devastating motorized bike accident in Maine. On impact, the bike caught fire, and River was engulfed in flames. Emergency responders acted quickly, and he was airlifted by LifeFlight from Maine Medical Center to Shriners Children’s Hospital in Boston. River suffered severe burns to the lower half of his body and has already undergone multiple surgeries. His road to recovery will be long and painful, with extended hospitalization, rehabilitation, physical therapy, and additional procedures ahead. While we are overwhelmingly grateful that River survived, his healing journey is only just beginning.

River’s father, Chris, is a devoted single father raising three incredible children. For years, he has worked tirelessly to provide for his family, often putting in 60 hours a week or more. River is surrounded by an incredible support system of family and friends, but as the days unfold, the challenges continue to grow. Chris has not left River’s side since the accident. While he is fortunate to have the support of his work family at Allison’s, every day spent at the hospital brings additional financial strain. Between travel, meals, rehabilitation, future therapies, and caring for River’s twin brother, Hunter, and his 16-year-old sister, Lulu, the needs are immense. River will require ongoing medical care, additional surgeries, physical therapy, and specialized rehabilitation as he heals both physically and emotionally.

If you know Chris, you know that asking for help is hard for him. We want him to have one less thing to worry about so he can focus on helping River heal and keeping his family together through the months ahead. Your donation, no matter the amount, will help ease the financial burden and allow Chris to be by River’s side. If you’re unable to give, sharing this page and keeping River, Chris, Hunter, and Lulu in your thoughts is appreciated. If these funds end up being more than enough to get them through this chapter, Chris would like to donate the difference to Shriners Hospital, which has been a miracle for River.
