Hey friends and family!
As you all know our baby girl has spina bifida, hudrocephalus and clubfeet. This means she has and will have a harder time with some of the things we take for granted like walking and bowel continence.
After doing some research we have come across a revolutionary therapy by a physical therapist in Florida. Her name is Gerti Motavalli and she does spinal stimulation! Thus therapy send some small electrical pulses into the nerves of the spine that are not functioning like they should to essentially "wake them up!" This could help River begin to gain back sensations that she is missing like feeling the bottoms of her feet and even increase her chances of bowel continence! We were amazed by this and obviously want to do everything we can to help our daughter succeed in every possible way.
The only tricky part is we would have to travel to Florida to meet Gerti in person and get the therapy started. We also need to purchase a therapeutic electrical stimulation unit for her and do Periodic follow ups where we would have to travel back to Florida! Of course, none of this is covered by River's insurance. Babies as young as 3 months can begin with this therapy so it is totally safe! We are excited at the possibilities this might bring for her. After discussing this over and over we've decided we needed to reach out and ask our village for help. This will be costly for us but very worth it for River! You all do so much for us already so we feel funny about even asking but we will do anything for our girl! Every little bit helps. This money will go towards the therapy session, unit needed and some travel costs! Thank you guys so much for considering helping us accomplish this.
