David Armstrong - Veteran Teacher and Coach Uses Lacrosse Culture to Teach Life Lessons
River City Sticks Lacrosse Club begins and ends every practice with a positive life message. My career began as a Ball State freshman 1962 – 1967. I was surrounded with people who showed me the way to use experience and develop a deep regard for those under my leadership. During my professional life I have spent 50 years perfecting my “see-say-do” method of teaching. I learned as I worked and built my circle of influence that those who show up do truly run the world.
River City Sticks will be the conduit to implement the culture of fun, skills development, overcoming obstacles and reaching various goals both individually and collectively.
River City Sticks is in the geographic center of six high schools: South Ripley, Rising Sun, East Central, South Dearborn, Milan, and Lawrenceburg. All schools are within a 30 to 40 minute drive of each other. The South Dearborn Community School Corporation is the hub of what we hope will become the first lacrosse team in Southeastern Indiana.
Lacrosse faces a very difficult problem with the cost of equipment eliminating thousands of kids who can’t afford $634.00 (average individual cost for a team of 26 athletes; all equipment, mid-western approximate price). River City Sticks wants to subsidize any and all comers who have an inquisitive mind and are looking for a fast, challenging, athletic experience. River City Sticks athletes will feel the pride and joy as they build a life of service.
River City Sticks core values start with teaching that education gives you the power to change your world. We will start by developing South Dearborn Schools and develop the others one school at a time. As River City Sticks evolves those 13 year olds will return to their schools and become ambassadors of lacrosse.
