Hello,

I am raising funds to help pay for Riven’s emergency surgery.

Those of you who know her know she's a quirky shy pup. Over the years, she has learned to trust her select humans and enjoy things in life (especially food). With all her strangeness, she is my perfect pup. If she is comfortable enough around you, she shows her big personality. She is stubborn, affectionate and just a little mischievous. She is not an emotional support pup, but she always knows when her humans aren't feeling great and has been known to give her family and friends extra love when they need it.

Riv's favorite things are going to the dog park, getting scraps of human food (especially spicy foods!), antagonizing her brofur and cousin into chasing her, and cuddling with her favorite humans. If you try to stop petting her, she will grunt and dig at you until you pet her again.

Last week, Riven started eating less and became a little bit lazy. At first, I thought her lack of appetite might be due to an upset stomach, but I made a vet appointment for her. They were booked until Thursday afternoon. By Tuesday night, she started throwing up. By Wednesday, the other symptoms escalated so much that she was not up to moving around and couldn't even hop onto the couch, and she seemed to be in pain. I realized we could not wait until Thursday, so I took her to the emergency vet at UCD. The vet discovered that she had an infected uterus. The procedure to remove her uterus and the infection cost $8,000. I wrestled with whether or not I would be able to afford this life-saving procedure. After a bit of thought, I realized I couldn't say no. Even if I couldn't afford it, I was willing to go into debt to save her. I have always been fiscally conservative and have some savings, but not enough to cover the entire expense. There have been some complications with surgery, and I am currently uncertain how much the final total will be after all the extra medical needs.

I know everyone is tight on money, and the decision to go into debt for my dog is my responsibility, not anyone else's. But, if anyone can spare even $5; it all adds up and will help offset some financial stress. Please help if you can; if not, please send good healing vibes and/or pray for Riv's recovery. She is only 8; she has several good years left if she recovers.

Thank you,

Suzanne.
