December 9th our dear friend and family, Rita Davis, was diagnosed with stage two breast cancer. Before undergoing a double mastectomy, Rita will need to undergo 16 weeks of chemotherapy to reduce the size of her tumors which she is set to begin tomorrow, February 3rd. Rita is a wife, mother of four and has been a teacher going on 8 years. Although she is employed and has health insurance, the extremely high deductibles and out of pocket costs have already begun to hit in the thousands with no end in sight. Thus leaving not much to cover the costs of chemotherapy, surgery, the time she will have to miss from work, and the expenses that come with running a household with children. Sadly her battle to beat cancer has just begun and she is already almost out of sick days at work. Rita has worked her entire life to help those around her. She has managed despite the whirlwind that comes with this diagnosis and preparation, to continue working, going to school for her masters and care for a family at home; and she has managed to do it with remarkable grace. She has accepted this battle with unimaginable strength and courage. Right now she needs our help so that she can win this fight and continue to be the amazing mother, wife, daughter, sister, cousin, friend, and teacher she is to everyone around her.
There are so many fears and unknowns that come with a diagnosis as such, NO one should have to worry about the cost of fighting for their life. That is why reaching out to friends and family to donate anything they can during this difficult time is imperative. No amount is too small and if you're not able to donate please help spread the word!
We also ask that you please keep Rita and her family in your thoughts, prayers, and meditations as they endure this difficult journey. God Bless.
