Rita was diagnosed with stage four pancreatic cancer that has metastasized to her liver. The doctors say without treatment she has 4 months to live and with chemo she has about a year. She has decided to try chemo. Rita will be having surgery to install a power port and will be getting chemo with the next few weeks. Dale is the main income for their family. We are raising money so Rita can get to her doctors appointments and Dale can afford to take time off of work to be with her on this journey. Rita has a dream to go to Mount Rushmore. If any funds are left over after her treatments they will be used to take her there as well.
Here is a little bit about Rita and what she has done to help the community that she lives in. Rita Johnson grew up in Portola and is a Portola High graduate. She has helped so many in her community. She helped for decades give food and toys to the needy in Portola with Holiday Helping Hands and Project Santa. She also was employed by the school district as s sign language interpreter, helped open the county's domestic violence shelter, worked in the court system as a victim advocate, and volunteers at the hospital in Portola interpreting for the deaf. She also has worked as her church's children's church coordinator for the last 10 years sharing the love of Christ with those around her. Rita has given do much back to her community. I think it's time that we reach out and give some back.
