Exciting Opportunity! Thriving Roots Wilderness School is working with an awesome team to purchase a 98-acre parcel of land in Metchosin, that could be our forever home so we can all Rise Up Rooted!
Join our community of stewards to tend & nurture this land as a source of connection for generations to come.

What if we could live in the world we dream about?
If we could tend the land for the future generations and form resilient, connected communities?
If our kids could grow up surrounded by loving adults and intact forests?
If the school they came to was entirely place-based and experiential and they didn’t want to leave at the end of the day?
Help us secure this new home so we can All Rise Up Rooted!

Thriving Roots Wilderness School and its partners have a conditional accepted offer on the 98 acre Boys & Girls Club property in Metchosin, BC. Until June 21st we have the chance to preserve this land for wilderness education, community healing and land restoration for the future generations. We’ve already raised most of the capital to bring this vision to life, but we still need your help to make this possible! Your donation or investment today would:
Preserve 100 acres of Garry Oak ecosystems and beautiful institutional farmland for:
- Wilderness-based education for hundreds of youth and adults each year,
- Regenerative farming projects and community-led land restoration.
- Nature-based therapy and counselling services
- Nature-based retreats for community leaders
- Indigenous partnerships for reconciliation and healing
We already have an amazing track record of our impact on youth, nature and communities. More people want access to these services but we can’t offer them without more land. We currently have until June 21st to finalize the sale before the sellers could move onto another buyer.
Help us fundraise $100,000 to support the start up costs of bringing this vision together.

Project Vision: Wilderness Education, Retreats and Land Conservation
Thriving Roots Wilderness School: Outdoor education experiences for youth and adults that enable students to develop strong roots in connection to nature, community, and self; discovering what it means to be fully human while bringing our unique gifts to the world.
To date we serve roughly 200 year-long youth and adult students per year, with an additional 150 for summer camps. With this additional site, we could easily triple our outreach in only 5 years.
Wilderness Retreats: A retreat centre for like-minded community groups to come and provide their health and wellness services on this land. Our main provider is Islandwild with Dr. Stephanie Marchal. We will host groups facilitating work in: eco-psychology & soulwork, permaculture, creative writing & music, yoga & meditation
Sustainable Farming: The 98 acre property is home to some of Metchosin’s most sensitive and culturally & ecologically important ecosystems. Some species include: Garry Oak, Great Horned Owl, Western Painted Turtles and Blue Camas.
We are partnered with sustainable farmers that specialize in the restoration and ecology of Garry Oak Ecosystems and meadowscaping. The farmland on the property will be used for organic food production and native plant propagation.
Nature-Based Therapy: The land provides private, restorative settings for nature-based healing. We envision offering one on one, or small group, nature based therapy sessions with registered therapists. Alongside, art therapy, workshops & retreats.

Open House (Virtual)
We will be hosting a virtual Open House via Zoom on June 17 at 6pm to learn how you see our vision fitting into your community. We would also like to answer your questions and see how we can help keep this land wild for everyone who wishes to keep it that way.
We admire the Metchosin community’s commitment to land preservation and hope we can work together to bring this vision together.
