You’ve probably never heard of NM because its really, really rare, but it’s a type of muscular dystrophy I was born with. This means that my muscles don’t work so well and they’re weak. It also means I have trouble keeping up with people, and things like breathing, especially at night time. My mom is trying really hard to help me get a service dog, but they are really expensive, and not funded anywhere, so we are starting a go fund me page to help raise money to pay for the dog and all the extra things needed like the special training and a special harness and other things like vet bills. We were planning a fundraiser party but it was canceled to to the COVID-19 virus. I'm scared maybe now I won't be able to get one now. so we decided to try a go-fund-me page to help.
Having a service dog will change my life! He (or she but a bigger dog so I’m guessing he) will be able to help me carry my school books, will help pull my wheelchair when I am having a tired day, help with my anxiety, and help me keep my balance when I am walking (especially if there are stairs). There’s going to be a special harness he wears that I can use to help myself get up with if I fall down. Right now at school if I get bumped and fall down I have to crawl on my hands and knees to the side of the hallway and use a wall or bench to help me get back up. It’s kinda embarrassing and I don’t want to have to do this in high school next year. If I fall and really hurt myself, my dog will be trained to go get me help, and will be carrying my medical information with him in case I can’t tell people about myself because I’m hurt. The other thing is that my mom says when I get my dog I will be able to be more independent, and sometimes go out without her! You have NO IDEA how exciting that is!
I am really looking forward to getting a service dog, and I just wanted to say thanks for all your help, love and support!
