Support 100 Mothers and Babies in Rwanda — After Birth Care Project
Umubyeyi Rise Foundation — Her Roots. Our Foundation.
I am a midwifery student, studying and living in Germany, and part of the Rwandan youth diaspora.
Through my studies and growing knowledge, I felt inspired to create this project — to share what I have learned, and to help build a community of support for mothers and babies in Rwanda.
In Kinyarwanda, Umubyeyi means Mother — a word full of respect and dignity.
It describes a woman who carries life and nurtures it.
Umubyeyi Rise Foundation was created to bring practical support to mothers in Rwanda who face significant challenges after giving birth — often lacking basic hygiene products and access to helpful information for the weeks and months after birth.
This project is focused on supporting mothers across Rwanda — especially those facing greater difficulties — which may often include, but aren't limited to, rural communities.
With the help of friends, family, and supporters, the goal is to provide care, knowledge and dignity to 100 mothers and their babies.
The aim is to raise 2000 € — to provide afterbirth care kits for 100 mothers and babies — each kit costing 20 € (for mother and child).
Each care kit will include:
• Hygiene items for mothers (e.g. pads, body soap, etc.)
• Baby care items (e.g. diapers, etc.)
• Nutritious food items to support recovery and breastfeeding
In addition to the care kits, mothers will also receive helpful knowledge and guidance on:
• Breastfeeding support
• Safe sleeping environments for the baby
• Common and important information in the first year of the baby’s life
All donations will go directly to providing these care kits and educational support, in collaboration with trusted local doctors and midwives in Rwanda.
The project is planned for August 2025 — and the entire process will be documented and shared, with full transparency.
Mothers will be welcomed at a community gatherings, where they will receive their care kit and information in a warm, supportive space.
Everyone is invited to help make this project possible:
