Hi friends! For those of you who know Risa and Andrew, you know what amazing, loving, and kind people they are. They have recently been going through a ROUGH time.
On Thanksgiving day (Nov 24, 2022) Risa experienced her first seizure. As she did not have medical insurance (thanks capitalism/lack of universal healthcare) she was unable to be seen at this time and hoped it was an anomaly.
Then on January 6th, 2023 she experienced her second seizure and it was necessary for her to go to the ER. They were unable to diagnose why she is having seizures, and was sent home with some temporary medication and a bill for $10K. The ER doc also reported her to the DMV and they suspended her license. She is a working photographer and the inability to travel has caused her to lose a majority of her income. She is still in the process of trying to file for disability, but is unable to get an appointment with a doctor (needed to send paperwork to EDD) for another month or two. So she is now stuck with a 10K bill and extremely limited income.
Risa needed to get onto Andrew's health insurance ASAP so she could start getting the medical help and diagnoses she needs. The quickest way to do this was heading to the courthouse the next day and getting hitched. While they have been talking about getting married for a little while now, this was hardly the wedding they had imagined. This was a wedding out of necessity — they were alone, and without family or friends to celebrate.
They deserve a REAL wedding, where their friends and family can celebrate with them. They are planning their wedding for June 3rd, and are trying to keep it as simple and low cost as possible, but even then, weddings are NOT cheap. And with limited income, limited help from family, and a 10K medical bill looming over their heads, they need your help to make this wedding happen.
We are hoping to raise 5K to help Risa and Andrew have the wedding they deserve (as many of you know, 5K is on the very low end to throw a wedding). The money will be spent on a DJ, decorations, food, Risa's dress, etc. Anything left-over from the 5K will go toward her medical bills as she works to get diagnosed and treated for her seizures.
Please consider donating what you can, every little bit helps. And anyone who knows Risa and Andrew knows that they deserve every bit of it.
