R.I.P. Solaiman Nourzaie

On January 18th 2016, a young hero from our community was taken from us.  Solaiman Nourzaie a student at U.C. Santa Cruz  was washed away by a big wave off the shores of Santa Cruz.

Solaiman was not an oridnary youth. He grew up learning about Islam and the Quran at the local masjid, South Bay Afghan Islamic Community Center. He then started teaching younger kids, refusing to be paid. He never missed a prayer and encouraged all those around him to do the same. He was the epitome of deen (religion) and iman (faith). He never stopped learning about Islam and would seek teachers at all the local masjids, MCA, Santa Teresa, Islamic Society of East Bay, Masjid al-Huda. He would give to charity, even if he had nothing to spare, and he would help all those that needed it, in whatever way he could. He was a leader and an inspiration, showing all that had the honor of knowing him, how to live a good life.

Despite endless searches from the Coast Guard, he has yet to be found. Some of the eye witness accounts described him as a hero. His family is in dire need of our prayers and assistance, and we have setup this link to help in the only way we can. Please be generous and give from your heart, as this family struggles with the most difficult of tragedies. Thank you and God Bless.  May God reward him for his bravery.

P.S. The funds will cover all necessary funeral costs and helping the family recover from this tragic loss.
