"Be in love with your life. Every minute of it."

Dear family and friends,

On August 23rd, 2015, at 8:30 pm Satvir Singh and his cousin went to enjoy the last few days of summer at Professor's Lake. This was a place that Satvir visited often with his friends. He enjoyed being by the water and close to nature. On this warm Sunday evening, Satvir and his cousin were standing on the rocks in knee deep water watching the sunset beyond the horizon. They were both admiring the beautiful view ahead of them and talking about future plans as they always did. As his cousin looked away from Satvir for a split second,  Satvir lost his balance and he went from knee high to 30 feet deep into the water. Just as his cousin turned to look at him, he heard Satvir scream,"Paaji (Brother), I don't know how to swim!" as his body was disappearing into the lake. Learning for the first time Satvir didn't know how to swim, his cousin without hesitation and fear, jumped into the large body of water that had just consumed his best friend. His cousin, despite being a strong swimmer, was unable to find Satvir. There were bystanders who came rushing to help upon hearing screams coming from the lake. The police and rescue teams were notified. As help was on the way, his cousin jumped into the lake one more time in hopes to recover Satvir. Even attempts by the bystanders were unsuccessful due to low visibility of the lake. The rescue team seached until midnight and were forced to suspend the operation due to darkness. Satvir's family and friends were advised to go home by the rescue team and return with them in the morning at sunrise to continue the search. This was the hardest and longest night for his family and friends while understanding the circumstances but still being hopeful that Satvir was still alive. At 6:00 am, family and friends waited anxiously for the marine search and rescue team to arrive at the lake. The divers recovered his body at 8:30 am, 12 hours after he went missing into the lake.

Satvir Singh was 22 years old. He immigrated from India in December 2013 shortly after the death of his father. He wanted to begin a new life where he could support his widowed mother and paralized brother back home. Being a recent graduate from Humber College he had big aspirations for his future. He was a patient, kind, loving and generous soul.

In just a short period of time, he touched everyone's hearts. He left his family and friends with countless memories that they will cherish for lifetimes to come. He was a friend, nephew, cousin, brother and son. Words cannot describe how much we love and miss him.

This GoFundMe account has been set up in hopes to fulfill Satvir's goal of supporting his mother and brother in India in lieu of this tragedy. After funeral costs, all funds will be directed to support his family in India.

"Be in love with your life. Every minute of it." This was Satvir's favourite quote. He was truly in love with life and this is what he encouraged everyone around him to live by.
