I write this with tears in my eyes and a heavy weight on my heart. Hello, I am Jackie Schabes. I'm single and work as a teacher in Los Angeles, California. This fundraiser is all for the sweetest and most lovey-dovey cat in the world, Foxy, and to help me during this very tragic time where I've lost too many loved ones in just a matter of days. Foxy and I aren't the kind to just give up, so here we are asking for your help.
Right now, I thought I'd be in Mexico City saying goodbye to my grandpa and spending time with my family members who are all gathered around him as he is only hours away from passing. His/my dog passed away two days ago, my sister's/my dog passed just last week, and now my sweet furball is in a very delicate situation that has had me taking her to the vet several times since last week. It ended with her having to be hospitalized in an ER (Veterinary Emergency Group Santa Monica) since yesterday (May 12).
Foxy has kidney failure and the test results are indicative of stage 4. The vets found that she has a urinary infection and their hope is that, if controlled, we'll see an improvement in all the indicators that they look at and we might see that she isn't really in stage 4 just yet.
I've been learning that cats can live with kidney failure for quite some time with a diet change and proper hydration. Right now, the goal is to get Foxy to fight the infection and to get her to a point where she can go back home with me.
Her medical bills are extremely expensive and she might even have to stay in the ER for a third day; It's too early to tell just yet. So far, between everything, you're looking at around 10k for everything, and that doesn't even include what it would be if they end up having to keep her in the ER for longer than 48 hours. While working as a teacher is a very rewarding job, everyone knows it's not the kind that will make someone rich, so I could REALLY use your help. Even if you can't help with much, anything is very appreciated and would make a huge difference for both Foxy and me. Please, help me not to have to say goodbye to yet another loved one.
