In January, Toni Tucker was diagnosed with cancer when seeing a doctor for something that she would have never thought would end up being cancer. Her type of cancer ended up being a rare form of Mesothelioma and had to go to San Diego to a specialist for her surgery on June 5th. The surgery went well and she seemed to be making progress until a complication sent her back into surgery. Since then, she has had one complication after another. Instead of coming home around June 20th as she thought, she was just released on July 3rd into a care facility to heal some more before finally coming home sometime (hopefully) in the next week or two. Her husband Ken has been by her side this entire time, staying in a hotel next to the hospital and because of this there has been no income while the bills just pile up. When she gets home she will need home care for one to two months which her insurance does not cover. Toni has done so much for our community with 4-H, AYSO, being a Parks and Recreation Commissioner and the Rio Vista High School Head Swim Coach just to name a few. She is currently an independent contractor working with the City as an Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drugs (ATOD) Prevention specialist so there is no net to fall back on and won't be able to come back to work any time soon. She has given so very much to our community and it's time for the community to give back to her in a time when she so desperately needs it.
