Help Riley's Emergency Surgery Medical Expenses

This is Riley a 4 year old female Yorkshire Terrier. Riley is my Friend Eren's fur baby. Riley recently underwent an emergency surgery for a herniated disk. The health complication first appeared when she all of the sudden was unable to move her hind legs. This has greatly limited her mobility and quality of life. The emergency surgery was performed on December 17th, 2023 and she is currently on a post operation care plan.

Riley is currently on pain killers and antibiotics. She has been under constant sedation the past 2 weeks that will extend to 6 weeks in total. Upon completion of her 6 week initial post surgery recovery we are looking to start Riley's physical therapy program. Riley is currently unable to control her bathroom habits and can only go where she is laying. Riley's family is working everyday to get her back to her normal everyday activities. We graciously ask for any financial support as we hope to get Riley walking again.

We want to be as transparent with this journey as possible and all the money raised will be proceeding to Erendira Contreras (Riley's mom). This post will include the full medical expenses as well as providing medical updates as Riley hopefully progresses through her recovery milestones.

Our greatest hope out of all this is to see Riley walking and enjoying life again. We cannot understate the fact that any donations made to Riley's recovery will be making a substantial impact on our journey to getting this fur baby walking again!

Riley’s Recovery Update: 01/14/2024 (Update 1)

Riley has done a great job of adjusting to her medicine routine. Riley had a follow up with her neurologist and unfortunately Riley has no sensation or feelings on her back legs. We remain hopeful with the help of physical therapy (hydrotherapy) and home exercises. Riley will recover some sensation in her legs. Although Riley’s ability to walk has not returned yet we are beyond relieved to see that her bright smile has come back. Riley's Recovery Update: March 13th, 2024 (Update 2)

In the picture below, Riley is at her acupuncture treatment where tiny needles are inserted in her lower back to stimulate nerves that were affected by the herniated disc. Per therapist, Riley seems to have regain some sensation on her right paw and has recommended to keep Riley on this treatment (see picture below)

Riley has been attending hydrotherapy session twice of week to aid with the conditioning and strengthening of her muscles. Consistency has been a key factor to Riley's recovery. Although Riley’s ability to walk has not returned yet we are beyond happy to see the Riley trying to stand on her own (See video)
