On March 4, 2022, my cousin, Jack Hourihan, unfortunately lost a long and well-fought battle against a Glioblastoma (GBM) at the age of 22. My cousin and Jack's younger sister, Quinn Hourihan, and I both decided to enter the NYC marathon to race in his memory. My newfound passion for running stems from my experience as a college soccer player who just retired from the sport I've been playing since I was 5 years old this past November. I turned to running to fill my competitive and active needs and within 2 months of self-training I was able to complete my first ever half marathon and from then on I was hooked! I have continued to run since, and I am hoping to follow in my mother's footsteps and run the TCS NYC marathon like she did. Since this is being done in honor of my cousin's memory, I have been making sure to only apply for charity sponsorship with organizations that have causes I can support and believe in. Party With Purpose (PWP's) events and charity partners they highlight on their website did just that for me. All proceeds raised go directly to a selected local charity or local office of a national charitable organization. I would like to be able to use the funds raised in my name to help others who have been affected by cancer or other brain tumors like Jack.
