Riley's Life Threatening Complex Appendix Rupture
Donation protected

Hello everyone,
This gofund me is set up by Amanda Mickelson, Riley's mommy. Riley has had multiple invasive procedures and multiple major surgeries to work towards the goal of saving her life. The surgeon team tells us Riley's appendix rupture is complex and as bad as appendix ruptures get. The head nurse on the critical condition ICU floor we are on informed us that in her 35 years of working in the level 4 ICU Riley's condition is in the top 10 worst appendix rupture cases she has ever seen at Mary Bridge Children's Hospital. She has 5 severe complications all of them are independently life threatening and Riley is fighting all of them at once.
We are currently on Day 9 in the level 4 ICU, Riley has 5 conditions that remain life threatening and she is still being tube fed through a picc line.
Current life threatening issues:
●Gangrene Infection
●Complex Ruptered Appendix
●Obstructed Intestines
●Twisted Intestines
●Sepsis in her Abdomen both Gangrenous and Fecal
Today Riley will get a CT scan to see how much gangrenous infection remains in her abdomen. 1 liter of infection was removed during the first major abdominal surgery. Invasive drainage tubes where placed into her abdomen and she still has a lot coming out of them. As a result we are looking at where the majority of the gangrene infection is currently located and what procedures need to happen to remove the infection. Might be as simple as moving the current drainage tubes to a new location under anesthesia or require another surgery to drain the area then place more drainage tubes in her abdomen. Riley currently had a total of 2 liters of infection removed in the last 9 days to put that into perspective Riley has 2.4 liters of blood in her body. That infection needs to be resolved before we can do another major abdominal surgery. The medical team told me this morning that she had a good amount of infection drain into her invasive abdominal tubes last night.
As a result of the severe gangrene infection the surgeons are unable to preform the major abdominal surgery needed to restore her to good health.
Riley is currently off oxygen and her blood pressure has stablized enough to go back to being monitored without constant monitoring for immediate corrective actions. She is working with physical therapy trying to help her move around better until the next major abdominal surgery can occur.
There is still no end in sight due to the complexity of Riley's condition. The surgeon informed us we are still a long way from being discharged or being on our way to a full recovery.
Unfortunately, the financial strain is significant enough that we will be setting up a fundraising account as medical costs for Riley has already exceeded 7 figures, our insurance has a 15% copay, we already owe over a hundred thousand dollars in medical bills after insurance. With Devan currently unable to work due to his amputation from an on the job injury we are rapidly depleting all savings accounts. I'm terribly sorry that I even have to ask for help but, at this time our family needs help.
Any small amount would help us at this time as there is the risk of loosing the house as a result of the hardships we are currently facing. We wouldn't be setting up a fundraiser if we didn't absolutely need assistance at this time. We do understand that times are tough for everyone and not all are able to help but, if you are able to share the fundraiser with others it would be greatly appreciated!
Please keep Riley in your prayers, our baby girl is not out of the woods and her condition remains life threatening.
Thank you all,
The Mickelson Family
