Riley and Adrienne's IUI and IVF Journey

Donation protected
If you know Riley and Adrienne, you know that they are empathetic, nurturing, and full of light. They take care of their people, and they welcome anyone into their community with open arms. To so many, Riley and Adrienne are a safe space, listening ears, and a comforting hug. They have a fierce love with a beautiful foundation. Riley and Adrienne are going to be extraordinary parents, but their journey to bringing a baby into this world has been one filled with heartbreak, medical debt, and an abundance of emotional and financial stressors.

Riley and Adrienne began their family planning journey 4 years ago. In the last four years, they have done 4 rounds of IUI and 2 frozen embryo transfers - their most recent ending in a miscarriage. Adrienne recently had a hysteroscopy and polyp removal surgery, and the two of them are hoping to embark on their 3rd frozen embryo transfer by the end of the year. Costs associated with their journey to becoming moms include:

  • Purchasing of sperm - $7,000
  • Base cost of IVF: $5,270
  • Embryo storage: $600 anually
  • First transfer of the year following a failed transfer: $2,500
  • Subsequent singular embryo transfer: $1,000
  • Meds for each individual transfer: $4,000
  • Monitoring pre-transfer (labs, ultrasounds, midwife appointments, etc.): $1,000
  • Monitoring post-transfer (labs, ultrasounds, midwife appointments, etc.): $1,000
  • Travel to each transfer in Colorado: $1,500 per transfer

A majority of the costs above are for 1 cycle. If the transfer fails, there is no “refund” or “transfer” of the fees paid - it is simply lost money without Riley and Adrienne getting their baby. Each transfer only has a 50% success rate, and on average, couples will need 3 cycles to achieve a successful outcome. The average couple spends $40,000 - $60,000 on IVF treatments before they have a child.

No part of Riley and Adrienne's IUI/IVF journey has been covered by insurance. It's also important to note that after they bring their babies into this world, Riley will have to legally adopt her children, even though they are using Riley's eggs and Riley and Adrienne are legally married. This will come with adoption and lawyer fees, estimated to be around $2,000 - $4,000 per child.

There are so many things we know to be true. 1: Riley and Adrienne are going to be incredible moms and they are going to raise really good humans. 2: The journey to starting a family for queer couples is one that is filled with extreme medical expenses, difficult decisions, and a lot of planning. 3: Riley and Adrienne have a massive community surrounding them - one we know is willing to support them and make the two of them feel a little less alone.

Riley and Adrienne have waited many years for their dreams of being parents to become a reality, and we hope this page will release some of the financial burden so they can pour all their energy into the next steps to becoming moms. All donations received will help Riley and Adrienne with the medical debt they have incurred so far, along with future expenses as they continue their journey to start a family.

On behalf of Riley, Adrienne, and their families - thank you!
