Riki the unfortunate Akita
Donation protected
Hello, those of you that have followed me or the other involved people in Facebook already know of Riki even if I haven't shared any updates in a while. Since his care and recovery will be a lot more extensive and expensive than we had hoped for I decided to start this GoFundMe.
For those of you that are new, on the 14 of September I saw pictures of a poorly Akita in need at a municipal shelter in Turkey, were a lot of the poor dogs were sick and/or starving to death. Pictures were courtesy of a friend (Thank you Hazel) that happened to visit while in country. I then got into contact with Linn from Antalyas Gatehunder, a Norwegian organisation nearby. On the 17th of September, Linn together with friends Uwe, Ülkü and Birkan went to get Riki out of the shelter. Due to how poorly and sick he was he got taken straight to a Vet Clinic, where he remained for three weeks.
Besides being horrendously underweight and dehydrated he also had bad diarrhea, parasites, a lot of skin scabs, something affecting his eye and a previously broken rib that had healed.. Thankfully he has tested negative for most ailments but sadly he does have Leishmania, which has been affecting him very negatively with anemia and caused lots of problems for his liver to mention a few issues.
Poor Riki, an owner surrender, had been at the municipal shelter since last summer, so for over a year he had slowly been dying, getting sicker and sicker and no treatments were given to him. And with how poorly he was, I felt like it was unclear if he would recover or get better, which is the main reason I did not start a GoFundMe until now. But thankfully now after several weeks at the clinic with treatments, fluids, medicine and blood transfusions hes now more stable. So several days ago on the 9th of October he was moved from the Clinic to Ülku and Birkan, for his Milteforan treatment against the leishmania.
Currently his accumulated costs are around 19.000 NOK, which is around 1.619 EUR. The two big expenses currently are the Milteforan Medicine which is absolutely vital, and then the three weeks stay at the clinic. Each of these ended up on around 8700 NOK or 740 EUR. His costs will continue to rise, this is why I put the donation goal a little higher, but hopefully what remains are more minor treatments, upkeep and food, and eventually when hes recovered enough, preparations for travel.
