Hello my name is Boshra and I'm the director of Right Hoof - an animated dark fantasy and psychological horror short film, which I am very excited to share with the world soon. But first, we need to actually make this film and that is why I'm here to ask for your support.
Here I explain about the project:
HOW FAR WOULD YOU GO TO SAVE YOUR LIFE?
Our protagonist Luduf isn't quite like the other goats: He understands what is happening around him. What may seem like a blessing soon becomes a curse, when the goats are brought to the slaughterhouse and Luduf knows exactly what is going to happen next.
With his life on the line, what sacrifices must he make and will they even be worth it?
The project has come a long way in the 9 years I've spent developing it and is now in production as graduation film for Animation at the Filmuniversität Babelsberg KONRAD WOLF!
The storyboards are ready and the team is already slowly but surely making their way through the shots. However, to finish the film in time for next September, we need your help! Making animation is a time consuming project and to achieve the visuals that match the story best, we’ve developed a hybrid pipeline to combine 2D, 3D as well as scanned textures and hand-painted backgrounds.
What we need the money for:
- Mari Software Subscription
The whole project is a hybrid of different techniques and even for the 3D part of the pipeline we’re using analog textures and paintings, which we have to scan and layer on our 3D objects and environments. After some testing, we found that Mari is the ideal software for this process!
- Compositing and Lighting Artist
Since Right Hoof is a hybrid animation, 2D animated characters have to work together with 3 dimensional environments. For this to look good and achieve the desired effect, heavy compositing is needed. As light and shadow are both a central part of the storytelling and key to the film’s visual appeal, working with a specialised compositing and lighting artist will be very important
- Animation Assistant
Now that we’ve reached the production phase, the actual animation is the biggest and most time-consuming part of the process. Right now, half of the first act is rough animated and we still have 200 shots to go! For reference, I currently produce 3 to 4 rough shots per week.
In order to wrap production by September 2027, we’ll need an animation assistant who can help us with the tie-down phase of animation. Our film style relies heavily on rough and sketchy lines instead of a polished clean look, so receiving extra help with the tie-down would help us stay on schedule and keep our sanity intact.
Upon supporting our project you will be guaranteed a mention in our film credits (please include your name for this) and you will receive project updates via this page.
If you've made it this far: Thank you so much! Your support means the world to us. We already can't wait to share the final film with you.
