Help me right a wrong. I am James Thomas “JT” Newton’s mother. I never thought I would have to do this. My son tragically and unexpectedly passed away on May 15, 2020. He was 28. I have had insurance on him since 2004. I was with the same person for over 25 years and our divorce was brutal. My ex took everything that I had worked hard for, including personal momentous from JTs childhood. I was paying my ex $500 a month alimony until I became medically disabled last year and could no longer work. When we divorced I did the right thing and I gave him his personal effects and insurance policy and I kept the policy I had for JT. After all he is my child. My ex is not legally or biologically obligated to JT. Only me. My problem is I received my claim packet and it said to send a copy of my exes death certificate to them. My ex is still alive. Insurance co. said he passed away in Park City Utah. I live in Park city Kentucky. I sent my beneficiary change in and the insurance company is saying they never received my change request last year. Yet they already have false information in my account. I have a copy of the notarized change request. Sadly my ex is the beneficiary, not me. I was the policy owner and that was not my wish or intention for my ex to benefit off me or my child. The insurance company said It would be easiest if I reached out to him, I did and my ex said he would NOT sign over my policy. It’s a simple yes or no answer because right is right and wrong is wrong. I did not, will not, and won’t beg him for anything. He either gives me my whole policy or don’t give me anything at all. This is wrong on many levels but it’s a matter of principle to me. Of course I’m appealing this with the insurance company but there is no telling how long it will take or that it will go in my favor. It’s only been 14 days. The funeral cost $9760. I paid $2500 to Chism Family Funeral home yesterday but I need help with the balance of $7260 ( I did not include a head stone) that is due on June 15,2020. I am also in need of lots of prayer. I’m having a rough time here. Thank you all so much for taking the time to read this and for helping me out, even if just through prayer. It really means a lot of me.
