We are collaborating with Oakland Family Services to find kids that do not currently have bikes. They are a private, non-profit in Oakland County which offers many services to families and children in Southeastern Michigan. This will be the best way for us to distribute as many bikes as we can across the area.
We will be buying the bikes from Back Alley Bikes in Detroit which is a non-profit community bike shop. They provide cycling education and services with a focus on youth development, sustainable practices and community access. Buying the used bikes from Back Alley Bikes allows us to support an additional charity while obtaining bikes at a discount compared to new bikes. Again, this will allow us to distribute more bikes to more children.
The IBT is a Michigan biking and hiking trail that stretches from Belle Isle in Detroit to Ironwood in the Upper Peninsula. It is the longest designated state trail in the nation. Both the 791 mile biking (red) and 1,273 mile hiking (blue) trail start and end at the same place, but take a much different route along the way. For this campaign, our 325 mile biking adventure will begin in St. Ignace and end in Ironwood.
Our end goal is to encourage kids to get active and healthy one pedal stroke at a time! Thank you in advance for your support and helping us to get bikes into the hands of kids!
