I did it :)
6 hours in the saddle. Abundant Scottish rain. Abundant hills! Abundant positive energy all around. Chris Hoy, what an absolute legend, has so far hit twice what he aimed for in his fund raising target; with the aim to help improve understanding of stage four cancer and hopefully help prevent in the first place. What an inspiring and amazing event.
I’m raising money to benefit Breast Cancer Now, and any donation will help make an impact. Thanks in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to me. I was diagnosed in 2021 and went through a year of treatment. As I emerged I joined a group, the Big Strong Lasses, founded by the inspirational Carolyn Garritt, to support those with, those who have had, and those who have secondary cancer. The group has significantly expanded since. It is an important part of every week and represents a positive aspect of my life which is a consequence of having cancer. Each week we share health updates, life updates and lift weights. Some of the group are embracing Sir Chris's challenge; I will be cycling the 56 mile Red Ride starting and finishing in Glasgow with a total ascent/descent of 3770ft with my husband John-he is experienced-I am less so-he signed me up when I was teaching in a classroom! However, I was privileged to be in the same stadium as Sir Chris last December at the World Cycling Championships in London. The ovation he received from the thousands there, he had to ask to be seated. Life can be very cruel, but the way he is facing the challenge of cancer is so brave and courageous. I will complete this ride for you Sir Chris, and to help those suffering and hurt by cancer. This is an immense, high profile fundraiser to push back.
