Riding school ponies retirement fund

Donation protected
Riding school horses and ponies work exceptionally hard in their lives but when they can no longer carry us around there is no private owner to look after them in their golden years and therefore they are usually put down. Years ago when helping out in a riding school I was saddened to realise this and felt they deserved to live out their days in a big field with friends forage and freedom, having given so much happiness to so many people, and so I set out to provide this for as many of them as I could afford.

Over the past six years I have provided retirement for four wonderful ex riding school ponies. Ernie, Henry, Walter and Patchwork. Sadly Ernie passed away last July after 5 happy years but the rest continue to enjoy the quiet life they deserve in a beautiful 10 acre field in the Surrey hills.

Until this point I have supported them myself but the pandemic has crippled my film work and the part time work I can find isn’t paying enough to keep me and three horses so continuing to care for them is becoming more of a stretch.  Therefore I am starting this fundraiser to give everyone who enjoyed them in their younger years the chance to say thank you by helping to support them in their twilight years.  And any animal lovers the chance to help some very hard working ponies enjoy their retirement.

The cost of their field, feed, medication for ongoing conditions and farrier is around £850 a month. Since Patchwork arrived he has knocked up a few vets bills ( two weekend colic call outs and he arrived with feather mites which he generously shared with his friends ) so the vets bills have hit hard. We are looking to raise anything at all towards that and IF money is raised beyond these bills and their monthly needs it will go towards constructing a field shelter to provide them with some respite from the summer flies and winter winds. Something I feel Patch in particular would be grateful for.

Donating the price of a lesson would go a long way in enabling the boys to get the healthcare and provisions they need to stay well and happy! And to pay them back for all the happiness they gave. However as always with these things any donations will help.

I will be regularly updating their facebook page, Ernesto the Brave, so everyone can stay in touch with their shenanigans  and  there will be opportunities to visit the boys in their new home once the current situation subsides.  Any support in continuing to provide these boys with the fantastic retirement they deserve would be wonderful!

Many many thanks on behalf of Henry, Walter and Patchwork.
