I never expected to be writing this, but sharing my story feels important — and I hope you’ll take a moment to read on.
I’m taking part in Tour de 4 2026 in early September 2026 to raise money for the amazing Cure Leukaemia charity. The Tour de 4 is a cycling event launched by Sir Chris Hoy which brings together people living with Stage 4 cancer, and an opportunity to raise vital funds for many different cancer charities.
My journey is a personal one. Having been a real fitness fanatic all my life - and being careful with my health and diet it was a huge shock when I was diagnosed with CLL (Chronic Lymphatic Leukaemia) in January this year. CLL is more commonly diagnosed in older men and is typically a slow-paced blood cancer. Unfortunately, my genetic markers show a range of high risk, fast paced mutations - which means that I have a much more aggressive disease and so I am not quite sure what the future holds.
There is no cure for CLL, but there is a lot of work being done to find new treatments - these include immunotherapy BTK inhibitors, and they are looking at finding ways to develop a cure for the future. It would be fantastic if you can support me on my training journey and ride on 6th September.
It will be a challenge for sure as the ride is 100km long and with a 3000 ft climb (equivalent to cycling up Snowdon)! It will certainly not be an easy ride! As Sir Chris Hoy has said, "He was determined to show others that illness does not define you" - so I am determined to complete the ride on the day.
Please join me in my effort to raise as much money as possible to support finding new cures for people of all ages with Leukaemia - and to aid research in finding new cures for all blood cancers.
Thank you in advance and I will keep you posted with my training progress as the day draws closer!
