Rider Down - Dean Cunningham

Donation protected
Rider down, calling all biking community brothers and sisters - unfortunately on the afternoon of 31st August 2023 our fellow biker, Dean Cunningham, was involved in a serious road traffic collision on East Mains Road in East Kilbride while out for a lunchtime ride, leaving him in a very serious condition in Hospital. (https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/in-your-area/lanarkshire/motorcyclist-rushed-hospital-after-horror-30838302).

To list some of his injuries sustained: his hip was smashed through his pelvis, right arm broken and wrist snapped, right tibia (shin) broken, left thumb broken and wrist broken, two ribs broken and some internal bleeding - a difficult read for us bikers for sure! The accident was caused by a car pulling out of a side junction into Deans’ path as he was travelling along the B783, causing a collision and resulting in Dean landing 15m away on the other side of the road.

The positive news is that Dean is stable and in hospital supported by his friends and family, including his wife and two young children. He has been undergoing extensive surgeries to repair the damage sustained, which included one 11-hour operation to repair his hip and pelvis.

Now for the ask - for those of you who have met Dean, even once, you will know how genuine, caring and generally all-round a nice guy that! He is self-employed running his own barbering business (Steeltown Barbers) meaning that Dean will have no income until he can return to work. Fortunately, he has a loyal customer base who will no doubt provide ongoing business when he is eventually able to return to work, however, doctors have advised this is unlikely to be possible until December at the very earliest.

As friends of Dean we have set up a fundraiser page to ask for some help from the generous biking community in supporting a fellow rider and his family through a difficult time. Dean is still undergoing extensive surgery to repair damage and recovery from his injuries will take a substantial amount of time. We want to show our solidarity and support by raising some funds to help Dean, his wife and children at this challenging time - aiming to give them one less thing to worry about while he recovers.

Any support is appreciated no matter how little (or large!), whatever you are able to provide will go a long way to helping Dean and his family.

Thank you all for reading and please all ride safe and be vigilant! We never think that this will happen to us, or the riders we know, until it happens.

Thanks,
Deans Friends!
