It's time to get involved! Make a change! Change lives! Get excited!
Pat and I are holding a ride at AuraCycle in support of Planned Parenthood, an organization without which millions of men and women would not have access to safe, high-quality, affordable health care. Our goal is to raise $3,000 for Planned Parenthood by the day of the ride, which when we donate we will submit to Netflix to match for a total of $6,000 in support of this wonderful organization that needs us!
We'll be riding on Saturday, May 20th at 2:00pm at AuraCycle West Hollywood, located at 8231 W 3rd St, Los Angeles, CA 90048 (3rd and Harper), with Shannon! It'll be $35 to ride, but don't feel shy about contributing more. Once you contribute your $35, sign up for a bike here. If you're not a fan of spinning or aren't available that day, please still donate to help us reach our fundraising goal. No contribution is too small. We can't do nothing!
Below are some of the many, many reasons why we need to band together in support of this incredibly important organization.
For a century, Planned Parenthood® has provided men, women, and young people with high-quality, affordable health care. Planned Parenthood health centers and international partners provide contraception,
testing and treatment for sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and lifesaving cancer screenings to millions of people in the U.S. and 12 other countries.
With a presence in all 50 states and Washington, DC, Planned Parenthood has 56 affiliates, which operate nearly 650 health centers. Women, men, and young people from every community and income level view Planned Parenthood as their first-choice provider of care. Some stats:
• An estimated one in five women in the U.S. has visited a Planned Parenthood health center.
• Planned Parenthood health centers provide health care that helps women prevent an estimated 579,000 unintended pregnancies and 197,000 abortions in a single year.
• Planned Parenthood’s local partners in 12 countries serve more than one million individuals.
• Planned Parenthood websites, including Planned Parenthood en Español, receive an estimated 72 million visits in a single year.
• Seventy-five percent of Planned Parenthood health care patients live with incomes of 150 percent of the federal poverty level or less, the equivalent of $36,450 a year for a family of four in 2016.
• Planned Parenthood affiliates provide the following services to 2.5 million patients, of whom approximately 15 percent are African American and 23 percent are Latino:
• family planning counseling and contraception to more than 2 million patients
• nearly 1.2 million pregnancy tests
• more than 270,000 Pap tests
• more than 360,000 lifesaving breast exams
• screenings to nearly 72,000 women whose cancer was detected early or whose abnormalities were identified and addressed
• more than 4.2 million tests and treatments for sexually
transmitted infections, including more than 650,000 HIV tests, and diagnoses of nearly 172,000 STIs
• more than 930,000 emergency contraception kits
• education programs and outreach to 1.5 million people
