I'm joining a historic bike ride to recognize the existence and significance of Black Lives.
This August, hundreds of cyclists will come together and bike from New York City to Washington, D.C. to participate in the Commitment March led by Al Sharpton and Martin Luther King III. This second March on Washington will take place on Aug. 28th, the same date that Martin Luther King, Jr. gave his famous “I Have a Dream” speech.
I'm raising funds to cover expenses for the tour (including housing, meals, medical kits etc) and sponsor at least four other riders fully who need financial assistance ($350 each). This should be an accessible experience for all who want to add their hearts, their voices and their bicycles to the movement.
Ride to D.C. was founded by a black African woman to recognize the significance of Black Lives in America, specifically in the world of cycling. Their aim is to raise awareness regarding the racial disparities within the bike community, fight for accessibility so that every person has access to a bike, safe roads, and bike infrastructure, and finally, to help create a culture where we redefine who a cyclist is and what they look like.
