Ride London for Hull Royal Infirmary Trauma Ward

Hi my name is Lesley Allen and I am grateful to you for taking a moment to read my request for a donation. On Sunday May 28th, I will be taking part in the Ride London 100 mile cycling sportif to raise money for Hull Royal Infirmary Trauma Ward.

People may already be aware that December 18th 2021 was a very traumatic day for our family when my son Sam was involved in a near fatal accident whilst travelling as a back seat passenger in a friend’s car. He needed a life saving bowel operation, major spinal surgery and treatment for other various minor injuries. Unfortunately, it was too foggy for the air ambulance to fly and Sam was taken by ambulance to Hull Royal Infirmary where he spent three weeks on the Trauma Ward.

Covid restrictions were still in place at this time, meaning nobody could visit Sam whilst he was in hospital over Christmas, New Year and his birthday. As a parent, I have never felt so helpless, not being able to help care and comfort my child when he needed me most. The only contact we could have was via FaceTime conversations.

However, due to the fantastic care and support the Trauma Team provided Sam, we all got through the experience and it is a great relief that Sam is now on the road to a good recovery.

I have been training for Ride London alongside my friend Sheila since the New Year and hope to complete the 100 miles in about 7.5 hours. Any donations I receive will be given to the Trauma Ward at Hull Royal Infirmary to enhance the care the Trauma Team provide trauma patients and their families which could include specialist equipment, rehabilitation and distraction items or something to brighten the ward environment. It all depends on how much I can raise!
