Ride for the Reef

Donation protected
Lee Hanyo & Kevin Uncapher are riding 600 miles in 7 days down the Atlantic coast of Florida! We are back with the third edition of the yearly cycling fundraiser & this time working with some good friends at Coral Studios for their 10 year anniversary to raise funds for their long time partner, The Great Barrier Reef Foundation.

Coral reefs are one of the most diverse and valuable ecosystems on Earth. The biodiversity is considered key to finding new medicines, and many drugs are in development from reef matter to aid with cancer, arthritis, and viral infections. A healthy reef supports commerical & subsistence fisheries along with tourism and recreation jobs, bringing in hundreds of millions to local economies. Shoreline coral reef structure buffers an estimated 97% of energry from waves and ocean storms to help prevent damage to beaches and towns. Coastal ecosystems also store and process carbon dioxide 30-50 times faster than forests. The reefs are an unsung hero on our planet, providing food, jobs, income, and protection to a billion people worldwide. Unfortunately, due to impacts such as pollution, invasive species, disease, bleaching, El Nino, and rising sea temperatures, the reefs are being damaged or are disappearing.

Our donations will specifically go towards a coral planting project, where coral larvae from healthy reef areas are planted in struggling areas for regrowth. If you feel so inclined, please click the link in our profiles and make a donation, no amount is too small. On 12/20 I will pull the funds and send in the donation check.

Huge thank you to Ish & Henrik at Coral Studios for the partnership, Matt Nein for all of the design work on the jerseys & promo, and Jolly NYC for the caffeinated electrolyte supplements to keep us going. Daily update posts each evening along with stories throughout the day and a little mini movie next month.
