This August 2018 I am leaving on a 4000+ kilometer cycle trip in Australia from Darwin to Perth and beyond as a fundraiser for environmental activism. Follow the blog: https://cyclingforearthshealth.wordpress.com
The trip takes place in Australia since I've been living here the past year on a year long visa. The goal is this: to raise money for WWF - Australia(World Wildlife Fund), West Michigan Environmental Action Counsel(WMEAC), and the Ecology Center in Ann Arbor -- links to their websites can be found below. Cumulatively these three organizations work to protect the environment, confront climate change issues, and promote sustainable living and food production in Australia, Michigan/United States, and internationally. The effects of modern industry and society are absolutely devastating on the environment and climate. I have become restless and frustrated with myself not taking enough action. I hope this trip will help.
Proceeds will be split between these organizations following the trip; after a small amount, hopefully just 10-15% is used for camping food to keep me fueled, some paid camping sites supporting national parks, and the occassional cheap accommodation for a restful bed and shower. I will be on the road for 40+ nights! The idea is that it will help me cycle as long as possible to raise more and more funds while I also post status updates with commentary promoting environmental consciousness and green living. I will also be using the time to self-reflect on ways in which I can reduce my carbon footprint and live more simply in general.
For a sustainable and promising future we need to work together to reduce pollution and habitat destruction, face climate change, develop clean agriculture, and live less wastefully. Thanks for helping everyone!
