Ride For Doug 2023 - Get Doug Racing! (and more)
Ride For Doug 2023 wants to Get Doug Racing!
Disabilities put barriers in places that have a dramatic impact on daily activities. It only takes one curb in the wrong place, one step up to a door, or onto a patio to prevent the inclusion of a wheelchair user. Long flights are uncomfortable for you and me, but without proper seating (and leg support) these trips are medically unwise for Doug.
It seems that no matter where we go, or what we do, there's always an extra piece of equipment we need to make, buy or borrow. This fundraiser is to help Doug participate in more things - by removing his disability one barrier at a time.
Let me be clear - the money raised here will not be used to pay for Doug to go racing.
Doug bought himself another car this year with his savings. This 2006 Dodge Charger RT has a 5.7 Hemi in it, and he takes it to the Mission Raceway quarter-mile track and competes in Street Legals on Friday nights.
Doug doesn't drive the car. His dad (or respite worker) does the driving. Doug is the team owner - his job is to plan the strategy and tweak the car.

Let me be clear - the money raised here will be used to ENABLE Doug to go racing.
The track permits passengers. Doug needs more than just a helmet. His neck isn't strong enough for the g-forces, so some form of neck brace will be necessary. We're also looking at some improved seatbelt restraints, and maybe a tent to provide some shade.
These are the types of equipment we're raising money for. Stuff that isn't "medically necessary" - but is "medically enabling". (Doug will have to buy go-fast goodies with his own money - not this.)
Donations made on the GoFundMe page (here) are not tax receiptable. They will be added to the RFD equipment savings fund and used to fill funding gaps in our healthcare system.
Tax receiptable Donations for Muscular Dystrophy Canada can be made online through the Donate Now link on the Ride For Doug Website
We are hoping to collect as many donations online as possible. Read this for more details.
Thank you in advance for your generosity.
