Help Rico Thrive in College

Rico is a first-generation high school graduate who has overcome significant challenges to pursue her dream of attending a prestigious four-year university.

Growing up in a low-income household with immigrant parents, Rico has faced limited access to social supports and financial resources. Despite these obstacles, she has worked full-time since she was 14 to help her family with household bills, all while excelling academically and personally. As a senior, Rico took six AP classes, joined multiple honor societies, led several clubs, and competed as a two-season athlete. Her dedication earned her a full-tuition scholarship at her dream university, where she plans to study business and work toward a career in business administration and management.

Rico’s commitment extends beyond her own success. She has given back to her community through leadership in the Diversity Club, serving as an ESOL guide and ambassador, volunteering with charitable services, and coaching girls’ soccer for kids in her community. Her parents have faced ongoing employment challenges due to their immigration status and the current political climate, making it impossible for them to secure loans or save for college expenses. This has left Rico short of the funds needed for room and board each semester.
