Meet Ricky Van Rickley, a true American hero, and a 27-year Army retiree. Ricky dedicated two decades of his life to special forces, retiring as a Special Forces Warrant Officer. His journey includes over 13 combat tours, spanning various war zones around the globe.

In 2012, after a challenging three years spent off and on in Afghanistan, Ricky discovered solace in an unexpected place—the waves. Surfing became his medicine, a source of healing that eventually led him to establish Task Force Hydro1 (TFH1) with two others.

TFH1, a surfing & outrigger 501(c)(3) nonprofit, focuses on saving the lives of veterans and first responders by providing them with access to the therapeutic power of the water. Ricky has poured his heart and soul into this organization, becoming the backbone that saved countless lives.

Now, it is Ricky who needs our help as he faces his toughest battle yet—stage two squamous cell carcinoma of the throat. Despite his resilience, Ricky took a leave of absence without pay to concentrate on regaining his mental and physical strength for a focused healing journey. He has shouldered dental expenses and copays, bypassing the VA's waiting times to ensure swift attention to his health.

To add to the challenges, Ricky had plans to remodel three of his four bathrooms, but the diagnosis interrupted those dreams. It's a testament to Ricky's character that, even in his time of need, he hesitates to ask for help.
