Ricky Flores Recovery

There comes a time in our lives that we have to put our pride to the side. Not to be afraid to ask for help.

We go all of our lives trying to be responsible in making the right choices. Then something very unexpected happens in your life that throws you a curve ball, and you don’t know how to handle it.

My name is Ricky Flores. I’ve been a tattoo artist for the past 17 years. My whole career has been based on using my hands and mastering my craft. Outside of tattooing, I’m a painter, graphic designer, graffiti artist, and  everything artistic related. Me and my wife are expecting a newborn baby boy in July. What’s happening right now has affected our family tremendously. Life was going great, and out of the blue this unexpected disease came into our lives.

I was diagnosed with Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS). It attacked my nerves and made my muscles weak. At this time, I’m no longer able to use my legs and maneuver my hands the way I used to, which effects my working ability. Putting a stand still on income. Currently, I’m in rehab trying to gain my muscle strength back to help me walk and draw again.

All your life you work hard to try to save money to prepare for times like these. Then find out that it’s not enough because of how overwhelming medical and recovery expenses can be.

I’m asking for donations because I’ll probably be out of work from 3 months to 3 years depending on my recovery process. Once I start the rehabilitation process, I’ll have to see how my body adjusts to rebuilding my nerves and muscles. It will take time, but it’s uncertain on how long it’ll take.

The scary part is the unknown. I never thought that I would ever have to be put in this situation. God is working through this time to make me understand how community works. I’ve never been one to ask for help because I don’t like to feel vulnerable, but I have to accept what God is teaching me.

We’re uncertain on what amount we’ll need because we don’t know how long recovery will last. Therefore, making it impossible to know when I’ll be able to return to tattooing to generate income. Whatever amount you feel you can donate, I greatly appreciate. If you’re unable to donate, I totally understand because times are hard for everyone. A prayer my way would be appreciated.
