Hi my name is Christy and I’m Ricky sister. As many of you know or have noticed that Ricky’s hands shake horribly, making it difficult for him to eat or drink in front of people. He loves going to the races and NE Girls BB. At home, there is always a sport on the TV. His right hand is noticeably worse than the left hand. Writing is out of the question. He has had this condition for a very long time but getting worse in the last several years. After doing some research, I was able to get him into Mayo Clinic in Rochester for an initial consultation in April of 2022. There was a long wait and he was able to go back in February of 2023 for a 2 day testing. After his testing, the results had to go to a panel of Doctors to get approved for a surgery called Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS). He was approved and is waiting for a date to go back to Rochester. The first surgery will take place on a Thursday and he can come home on Friday. He will need to be in Rochester on Tuesday night for a Wednesday meeting with the Doctor. This is to anchor and countersink leads into the skull outer table to improve cosmetic result and reduce risk of erosion through the scalp. The second surgery would happen on the Tuesday after and he would go home that day depending on time of day. We would have to be there on Monday night. The second surgery is to implant the battery and the extension wires. After this surgery, it would be 2 or 3 weeks before the neurostimulator is turned on or programmed which means another trip to Rochester. We would also need to go back to Mayo 2 or 3 months later to fine-tune the system. The funds from this would help with travel and his deductible. Ricky’s family appreciates any help you could give him.
