Rick's New Wheelchair
Donation protected
Rick is one of the nicest and humble individuals you can ever meet. He never ask for anything; he only ask what he can do for others.
Rick has cerebral palsy and uses a wheelchair to get around. A wheelchair that was fitted for him 14 years ago; could you imagine having to fit into something you had sized 14 years ago? The chair also doesn't have any back support and the seat cushion is ripped and the zipper broken.
Yes, he has health insurance, but that health insurance requires a ridiculously high deductible to be met before it pays for anything- no average full time worker could afford that all at once. I spoke with Rick to see how much a chair that he would be able to use would cost.. he told me the bare minimum cost would be between $1200-$2800. That's before the modifications that are necessary for his comfort.. and he would really like for it to be silver, which adds at least $400 to cost.
Some coworkers and I came together and decided we wanted to step up and do something about it. If you could donate anything at all it would be greatly appreciated! We want to surprise Rick and show him that his Lowe's family will always help him in any way we can. I set the goal for $2000 so his deductible ($1200) can be met (after GoFundMe gets their small percentage) and he can get exactly what he needs.
Thank you!
UPDATE: It's no longer a surprise as we had to let Rick in on it to shoot the news story with WVMT 13.
If there are any overages once Rick's new wheelchair is purchased we will be giving the remainder of the money to Rick, as another need within his household has come to light and I feel it would be best used towards that. Thank you for your overwhelming support!
