Rick's long journey ahead

As many of you have heard, Rick (my father-in-law) has been diagnosed with stage 3 esophageal carcinoma. This news was a complete shock and has been surreal for the entire family.
Rick will be starting chemotherapy and radiation in the next few days to treat the tumor in his esophagus. His doctors say that this will be a rough and bumpy road, but they are very optimistic.
After Rick completes the chemo and radiation he will have a surgery called the Ivor Lewis Esophagectomy to remove the tumor. This surgery will be very involved, and from what I understand it's not just removing the tumor, it will also be removing most of his esophagus and half of his stomach and deflating one of his lungs.
Rick will not be able to work during all of this, and Kathy (the love of his life and my mother-in-law) will be his caretaker throughout this whole process.
I am asking for your help for Rick and Kathy through this trying time in their lives.
