Rick Wakeman, long term resident of Siem Reap, along with his wife Naret, who together founded the AFTV (Ability Fair-trade Village) and the Siem Reap Food Bank, is in urgent need of your help.

Rick is seriously ill in an ICU ward in a Government Hospital in Phnom Penh suffering from a pulmonary embolism.

Rick needs 24 hour monitoring for life threaten conditions.

Rick and Naret do not have the funds to cover the medical treatment he needs to prevent his condition from becoming FATAL.

Rick and Naret have dedicated their lives to helping and saving others.

Now they urgently needs others to help save Rick.

Please donate to our GoFundMe appeal…to help save the life of a man who has dedicated his life to helping others.

Please read our story below...
...Hello, we are a group of volunteers who have worked alongside Rick and Naret, the founders of Ability Fair Trade Village (AFTV) and the Siem Reap Food Bank (SRFB) projects for many years. Rick and Naret have been helping disadvantaged people living in Siem Reap since 2015 and are well-known within the local not-for-profit community for their tireless efforts with helping people in need. More details about AFTV and the SRFB are available on their websites.

Rick is now in need of our assistance as he is very sick and currently in an intensive care ward in a Government hospital in Phnom Penh. He needs 24-hour monitoring for life-threatening conditions. The hospital charges have been checked throughly and are in-line with usual costs made by government hospitals in Cambodia. However, the care, 24 hour monitoring, tests and medication he requires is very expensive and does not include food or personal care. Naret is only allowed to visit him 3 times a day to bring him food and look after his personal hygiene.

Rick has dedicated his life and savings to helping others and does not have the funds to cover the expensive medical treatment he needs to prevent his condition becoming fatal.

Our small group of volunteers and colleagues have managed to cover the cost of his treatment, tests and medication at the Siem Reap Hospital, the ambulance transfer to Phnom Penh and his first few days of treatment, tests and medication in the hospital in the capital.

However, he will have to be in hospital for at least 7 days, maybe 10 days or more, depending on how he responds to his treatment and medication. There has been no suggestion of any surgery yet, but this could be a pathway he may have to travel in the future. The doctors want to see how he responds to his treatment and get him well first, before any other medical recommendations will be suggested.

We are calling on family, friends, colleagues, past and present donors to give back to Rick, a man who has worked behind the scenes to make sure people less fortunate than him were cared for. Help Rick get back on his feet, so that he can continue helping more people in need of a hand up.
