Medical Care For Autistic Son

Donation protected
My son, Rickey, has battled with autism from an early age.  He is a fantastic young man unfortunately when he turned 19 he suffered from early adult onset schizophrenia and brain inflamation and has required 24 hour/day health care and supervision.  We have been treating the schizophrenia with both medical and natural protocals under the supervision of a fantastic M.D. and Psychiatrist in Miami.  He is improving mentally and emotionally.  We have seen great improvement in recent months.

However, this year we have had to face another debilitating disease "primary immune deficiency."  The treatment is very expensive and requires weekly iv infusions.

Treatment to boost the immune system

Immunoglobulin therapy. Immunoglobulin consists of antibody proteins needed for the immune system to fight infections. It can either be injected into a vein through an IV line or inserted underneath the skin (subcutaneous infusion). IV treatment is needed every few weeks, and subcutaneous infusion is needed once or twice a week.  http://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/primary-immunodeficiency/basics/treatment/con-20031958

This treatment is required every week in order to maintain Rickey's immune system.  Mediciad has been able to pay for the infusion which costs over $90,000/year however, they do not cover the cost of the infusion and the care.  Currently Rickey is improving slowly but he will require continued IV's and care.  We currently have to pay for 24 hour health care that is not covered by Medicaid or insurance.  Which has caused significant financial burden of my family.  We have no other choice but to continue with this expensive therapy in order to maintain his health.  Without this therapy Rickey is open to severe infections and complications.

Currently we have to pay over $3,000/week for health care workers to assist Rickey 24 hours/day none is covered by insurance or medicaid. Plus special dietary and medical needs. We have paid this for 5 years but now my savings is depleted and need your help.  We are raising enough funds to care for Rickey for the next 5 months and we are praying for his quick recovery and health.

Symptoms
By Mayo Clinic Staff http://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/primary-immunodeficiency/basics/symptoms/con-20031958

One of the most common signs of primary immunodeficiency is an increased susceptibility to infections. You may have infections that are more frequent, longer lasting or harder to treat than are the infections of someone with a normal immune system. You may also get infections that a person with a healthy immune system likely wouldn't get (opportunistic infections).

Signs and symptoms differ depending on the type of primary immunodeficiency disorder, and they vary from person to person.

Signs and symptoms of primary immunodeficiency can include:

Frequent and recurrent pneumonia, bronchitis, sinus infections, ear infections, meningitis or skin infections
Inflammation and infection of internal organs
Blood disorders, such as low platelet counts or anemia
Digestive problems, such as cramping, loss of appetite, nausea and diarrhea
Delayed growth and development
Autoimmune disorders, such as lupus, rheumatoid arthritis or type 1 diabetes

Your help would be greatly appreciated.  Rickey is a wonderful young man who has had to deal with a life time of multiple diseases and medical issues.
