Next week I begin a new therapy for my chronic depression that goes beyond what medications can do.
TMS is a relatively new therapy that uses a strong magnet over a targeted area of the brain, designed to stimulate the neurons most often associated with severe chronic depression. Each treatment is $35 out of pocket for me and will be a total of 37 appointments over the next 7 weeks. That comes to $1295 that has not been budgeted for and does not include the expenses related to travel to and from the clinic in Tacoma.
My depression is chronic and has been a problem for me since adolescence, and becomes a serious problem on a nearly annual basis to the point of suicidal thoughts and poor management of my existing medical issues (those are considerable because I'm now 33 years into my HIV infection and 28 years since my initial AIDS diagnosis).
Once I've completed therapy, I hope to have experienced a reemergence into the land of the living. Maybe see a few of my friends and do a few of the things I use to enjoy. Maybe I'll take a shower more than once a week, and I'll get outside and enjoy the world. Who knows, maybe I'll start singing again!
The help I receive here will go directly toward those expenses, and nothing else. Thank you, in advance to any and all who can spare a few bucks to help.
Asking for help is hard, so please know that I'm not asking for your money because I haven't considered all the ways this could be done without it. It's simply a ton of money I need to spend in a short amount of time that I don't have. And I can't wait any longer for this treatment.
