This page was set up on behalf of Rick for his ongoing Cancer and medical bills and associated expenses, and in part to an anonymous letter left at 603_Iron; Rick's free personal training gym of 30+ years.

He has helped hundreds of young High School and College athletes; never once asking for a single penny.  He did so out of the passion for fitness and to help mentor young people along the way to lead healthy respectful lives.

Rick, was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma bone cancer, a relatively rare form of cancer in October 2015.  Rick continues to maintain a very positive attitude about life and his diagnosis.

He had chemotherapy from October 2015 through May 2016.  In May Rick went into the hospital for a stem cell transplant. He remained in the hospital for several weeks. He then was restricted to home with minimal contact with people for 100 days while his immune system rebooted.

It turned out that the stem cell transplant did not take.  Several of the top Multiple Myeloma Specialists from several hospitals got together in their monthly roundtable in Boston put together a new more rigorous combination of new chemotherapy drugs which over the next year brought his cancer levels down to a manageable level.

This, however, wasn't without numerous side effects which pretty much kept him homebound through December of 2017.  Rick is now able to get out to visit friends, family, and work with some restrictions.

He is just starting back on maintenance chemotherapy regiment in July 2018, to help keep his cancer levels in check

This page is set up to help him cope with the ongoing costs of the various medications and numerous doctor visits required to maintain his health.  Although he has health insurance, the premiums are very steep, and they do not cover all the out of pocket deductibles and expenses that are mounting weekly.

His outlook is bright, and he should be able to lead a relatively healthy life with a few restrictions as long as he continues his ongoing treatment.

All money donated will go towards medical and doctor bills, associated expenses and travel expenses needed for his care and support.

With several new Multiple Myeloma cancer drugs coming out every year, we are all hopefully to one day find a complete cure for Rick and everyone else who has to live with this type of cancer.
