In Memory of Rick Gauthier (The Sign Guy)

On January 10th, 2025, my grandfather (and legal guardian) was the victim of a freak accident during one of his sign jobs. He was putting a sign up in Live Oak, CA on Elm Street at The Powergym. The sign he was putting up fell and swiped his ladder out from under him causing him to fall 20 feet from the ground with the sign collapsing down on top of him. He suffered a skull fracture, lacerations to his scalp, and broken ribs. He was transported to Rideout and then life flighted to UC Davis in critical condition and was placed in a medically induced coma. He suffered major bleeding and hemorrhaging in his brain and gained his wings Jan 11th, 2025 at 4:52pm.

He was the sole provider for his household and my grandma cared for the children. So financials are very tight and hard right now. The man worked everyday and was the small business owner of a sign and banner business in Yuba City, CA called FTSDigital. Looking around the town and all throughout towns of California you could see the signs he made. From wrapping race cars, dominating the pictures at Marysville Speedway during his time there, and taking on life like a champ.

He was someone we all looked up to growing up. The first to call when things weren't going well because he would pick up and help no matter what he was doing. He worked hard to provide a home for his family and give us all experiences for a lifetime. He always said never say you can't do something, because then you won't be able to do it. Think positively and you can do whatever you want to do in life.
