Rich's long road to recovery.
Donation protected
I have been in the hospital and spent my time at UCLA/Ronald Reagan for seven months trying to stay alive. I was able to get on a liver transplant list two months ago to give me a new lease on life. With that said, I have kept up the best attitude I could, but now I am running out of funds to keep things going. The recovery after getting a new liver can be six months, and most likely I am six to nine months away from getting the surgery. I haven't let a lot of people know about my condition because I didn't want to bother any of my family or friends until I had a prognosis that could have a positive result. Priya was diligent in getting me on the donor recipient list and she was able to get me in with Dr. Sammy Saab, the best liver doctor in the country. I currently have 13 doctors, take 18 medications, and went through my retirement and savings to stay alive. I am not someone to ask for this type of favor from friends or family; however, anything you can do will be greatly appreciated. I have been diagnosed with end stage liver disease, which allows me to have good weeks and bad weeks, until I can secure a donor to have the surgery. I almost didn't make it through the night twice, but made a mysterious recovery according to one team of doctors. I am following doctor's instructions, taking my medications, and trying to get stronger until I have to get the procedure.
If you can't help financially, I completely understand as these are difficult times, but in that case, please send positive thoughts or prayers my way. Thank you for reading this, and love you all very much.
