Sadly I have found out that my insurance did not pay for some of the services that I received in the hospital. I currently owe the hospital $20,000 dollars. We are humbly asking you to join this GOFUNDME campaign to help Richie Phillips, 32, who is a friend who has been a bright beacon of hope for many other lives in his community and beyond, and who now needs our help in his life. Richie’s generous spirit, gentle presence and kindness has been such an encouragement for many others as they face daily struggles.
In 1994, at age 11, Richie was diagnosed with diabetes, but he hasn’t let this get him down. Instead, he carries on and as a volunteer for Rape Response for the Crisis Center of the Shoals, in Florence, Alabama, Richie greets each day with a smile on his face and an open heart, ready to reach out and help anyone in need.
Two years ago, Richie discovered that he had renal failure, due to the diabetes, and now he must undergo a kidney transplant. When Richie has the transplant surgery, he will be unable to work for two months and simply does not have enough paid time off to cover his bills and needs due to the two months of missing work. Also, to prepare for his surgery, Richie has been on peritoneal dialysis for seven months. This type of dialysis is done at home, 7 days a week at night and this treatment is very expensive.
