My mom, Richele McKiernan, was diagnosed with Invasive Carcinoma Ductal Breast Cancer on February 08, 2023. The doctor had my mom make an appointment with a cancer surgeon in Las Vegas. The soonest they could get her in was Feb 21, 2023. The surgeon stated that the tumor had doubled in size since the biopsy. The surgeon contacted an oncologist to have further tests done to make sure the cancer had not spread anywhere else in her body. My mom saw the oncologist on Feb 28, 2023, again the cancer had increased in size. A pet scan was ordered for March 9th, 2023, while waiting for the pet scan an order was placed for her to have a port placement and an echogram done. The port placement and the echogram were completed on March 7th, 2023. The port was placed for chemotherapy. The pet scan was completed on March 8th, 2023, results show a spot on a lymph node near the tumor. The plans call for my mom to have chemotherapy for 6 months to shrink the tumor. The chemo will be given to her once weekly, then surgery to remove the tumor and then radiation treatments for 6 more months. Chemo starts Wednesday, March 15th. My mother is a single mother of 2 who will be traveling 2 hours round trip every week for chemo and doctor appointments. She is the sole provider for our household. The physical and mental stress of the cancer is alleviated by the financial stress and hardship this will cause. The medical bills and loss of work she will endure present a tremendous hardship on our family as we fight through this cancer battle together. Every little bit counts and every prayer is a blessing to our family. Thank you so very much and God bless you all!!
