Hi, my name is Richard. In January of this year, (2025), I was diagnosed with stage 4 cirrhosis. One of the symptoms of this is hepatic encephalopathy. My liver can no longer filter the ammonia from my body. This is causing the ammonia to build up in my central nervous system. It effects my speech, my thought process and my mobility. Amongst other things. Due to this, I'm now unable to work. As you can imagine, with my wife and I both on ei, expenses are really snowballing quickly. My wife is on caregiver benefits to ensure that I'm stable before she returns to work next month. We're paying for our medications out of pocket until she returns to work.
