On Thursday, April 21st at 3:05pm, this world lost a great man. Richard David Ala of Midlothian, Virginia peacefully left to be with the Lord after ongoing complications from pneumonia. He was a loving husband of almost 50 years with Jayne Ann Ala, and enjoyed their life together with 3 amazing children, Jeffrey, Matthew, and Kaitlyn. He was a lover of everything involving gardening, bird watching, fishing, and visiting vineyards of Virginia. He also enjoyed anything involving time his family, as he was always ready to cook a large pot of his famous spaghetti sauce, and spending time with his 5 grandchildren. Anyone who knew him could agree that every moment with Rick was going to be filled with good stories, good food, and plenty of laughs.
Even though he was taken too soon, he was lucky enough to have celebrated his 70th birthday with all his children and grandchildren in his hospital room, which is one of the last happy memories we will have with him. Due to the fast progression of his illnesses, our family was unable to financially prepare for the hardships of funeral preparations, and hospital expenses. Pre-existing health conditions limited insurance options greatly, especially with Jayne's recent unemployment. Our family is trying to find peace in joining together to help Jayne come up with the funds necessary to make this time as stress free as possible, and to help ease the transition of life without Rick (aka Gilly).
